Outrage over Shenendehowa budget

April 14th, 2011, 11:51 am by

From Joe in Clifton Park:

I just wanted to voice my outrage over the proposed Shenendehowa school district 3.5% tax increase that they’re asking for. There are over 70 jobs that have been lost already by hard working teachers and staff. And yet no cutbacks whatsoever have been taken at the district office.

This is an office that has salaries that range anywhere from $150,000 to a superintendent salary of $220,000.

As a taxpayer in the Shenendehowa School District I paid for the superintendent, in addition to an exuberant salary, his dry cleaning, his gym membership, and even down to a petty $1,200 for a smoking cessation program.

I mean, when is it going to stop? These people are pigs and we pay for a million dollar life insurance on him and yet teachers only receive a life insurance policy equal to half of their salary. Not one job has been lost in the district office and not one cut in pay.

They got their last pay increase and the next one they only put on hold, which is something not many people know, it’s only on hold, they’re going to get it. While other people are losing their jobs and getting nothing and now they ask for 3% percent tax increase on the taxpayers in this district to continue to fund his extravagancies up there.

I think it’s outrageous and I think he should be confronted with these things as well as the public be made to know.

Disappointed with Obama

April 8th, 2011, 9:44 am by

From Cathy in Troy

Come on! Even if you voted for Obama, you must be disappointed by now.

Just in the past two days Gadhafi says he hopes Obama has another four years as our president. And refers to him as one of his sons.

Then today, one of his good friends since high school gets arrested for prostitution. Do you think. You know a person by the company [message cut off].

‘Why is Cuomo not laying off the state workers?’

March 24th, 2011, 10:08 am by

From Robin in Troy:

What I’d like to speak about is the New York State employees. I know this is always a hot topic, but as a person that has many friends and family working for the state, nine out of ten of the people that I know that work for the state are online all day on Facebook, reading your email, participating in blogs on state time.

For example, we have a relative that we don’t hear from at all, unless it’s on state time between eight and four.

Why is Cuomo not laying off the state workers, a minority of them? It’s a well-known fact that the state workers do not work as hard as those in the private sector, yet they get all the benefits and holidays, and they’re the first ones to complain.

I’ve spent many years in the private sector. I haven’t received a raise.

Why is he not freezing their salaries? Why is he not going through and cutting out the dead wood, like the private sector does? And why isn’t he downsizing the many unnecessary positions in the state, especially with everything going on in the economy and the teachers that we’re losing? It’s about time to turn down the state just like every other corporation has.

Kegs and Eggs Videos

March 14th, 2011, 5:45 pm by

From Anonymous

I want to know why none of the news stations are reporting about the events of Saturdays kegs and eggs; college riots that are posted on YouTube under “kegs and eggs Albany, New York.”

It’s a complete disgrace and an embarrassment to the City of Albany to show that these kids that are supposed to be adults are acting like a total group of animals, and the Albany police were doing nothing about it.

Obviously, if you watch the videos, they are nowhere to be found the whole video. So, maybe Channel 6 News should look into this and see how come this is not being taking care of because if anything it looks like it could’ve been dangerous and possibly under age drinking was taking place.

Superintendent Salaries

February 28th, 2011, 10:02 am by

From Sherry

I’d like to vent about Cuomo’s new policy, proposing to the legislature cutting back on or capping superintendent salaries, which I think is a great idea. Knowing a lot of local teachers that are displaced because of the economy, I don’t really understand why the head honcho’s are making all of the money when the teachers clearly are doing a great deal of the work, and aren’t fairly compensated or have lost their jobs.

Also wanted to know why the New York State School Board isn’t affected? My understanding is that part of the state there are steep state retirement benefits and all of the pennies that go with it and the directors of every department over in the New York State School Board over in Latham on Century Hill Drive all make over $100,000; The Communications Director, the Finance Director, etc.

Why is Cuomo not looking at the New York State School Board? What are they doing to help out with schools in general? And why are their salaries so over inflated? Awful lot of perks over there and not a lot of activity.

Ticketed-Taxed-Towed

February 3rd, 2011, 3:19 pm by

By Edward Rivera, CBS 6 Intern

I’ve been ticketed. I’ve been towed. I’ve been ticketed AND towed and it’s no fun whatsoever.

With the winter this city is having, things will only get worse throughout the season. The temperature seems to be falling weekly with mass amounts of snow to along with it. Ice and snow blockade what would be available spots. Not to mention those who preemptively get spots only to have their car completely engulfed in snow by amateur plowers trying to clear driveways and the streets (i.e, me). Nonetheless, fresh snow on the ground only means fresh fines waiting on your windshield. Read the rest of this entry »

Snow driving

From John in Schenectady

Why can’t people drive? When it snows a foot, why do people still drive like maniacs? You’d expect better in the Northeast where this stuff happens.

NYSSBA Board and education funding

January 12th, 2011, 3:22 pm by

From Renee in Albany

I’d like to vent about the New York State School Board Association. I’m concerned about the lack of education, the cutbacks in our government and the NYSSBA board who is highly overpaid and is supposed to regulate the school districts’ spending, etc.

It is located in a preposterous building in Latham. They continue to have high level cocktail parties and functions when everyone else has cut back.

Their staff is extremely overpaid and they spend a lot of time spinning their wheels when the State Education Department has been just going down the drain, to me they’re losing nothing but good teachers.

Why is the NYSSBA board intact? Why haven’t they cut back? Why are there no layoffs there? Why is no one policing this organization? Why do they have all this extra money to spend on frivolous things such as cocktail parties and three-day conventions in New York City where hotels extremely expensive when we’re laying off the letting go very good school teachers and not giving districts the aide that they need.

Isn’t the school board supposed to be doing these things. Why are they spending more money on entertaining rather than getting something done in the state? Making sure our kids have a good education in schools have children that are properly educated.

Criticism of Saratoga ‘code of protecting their own’

December 22nd, 2010, 10:29 am by
From Rebecca in Saratoga Springs
Why is it with the Saratoga police they’re allowed to do the same thing. They don’t use directionals they’re on the cellphone but they have no problem pulling over tourists. It’s very political up there. A majority of the people that work in the courthouse are connected to the police and they’re the biggest offenders of not only drinking and driving, but also not following traffic rules. I had an out-of-town guest this summer that was pulled over for not using a directional and doesn’t drink was harassed, interrogated. It just seems to be a lot of corruption in the Saratoga police force and why is that allowed? Shouldn’t the rules be the same for everyone if they drink and drive? Why is there a code up in Saratoga of protecting their own when every other town has changed their ways.

Policing police

November 22nd, 2010, 8:44 am by

From Rob in Waterford:

I want to know why do state troopers speed on the Northway and who is policing them. They don’t have their lights on and they must be doing 80.
